Target Heart Rate

No matter what fitness goal you have — to get more fit, build muscle, rapidly enhance your conditioning, burn fat, and so on — you want to train with intensity. When you work at a greater intensity, ideally 85% of your maximum heart rate, your body actually burns more fat calories overall, as well as more calories in general.  With that said, I want you to work at 85 percent of your maximum heart rate, which is the maximum number of times it’s safe for your heart to beat in a minute while exercising.  You arrive at this number by subtracting your age from 220, which will give you your MHR and then multiply that number by 85%.  This will give you the exact intensity level I want you to train.  You can wear a heart rate monitor to be sure you maintain this level.
